So far, my first week at Hippocrates did not disappoint. I’ve met some of the most inspiring and amazing people and found a new level of health I had been wanting and looking for.
When I first got here last Sunday I was immediately intrigued with all the natural beauty that is abundant here. The paths that led to tiny little resting spots and juice bars and meeting places. “How fun!” I thought. I couldn’t wait to explore the 50+ acres of this paradise.
And explore I did!
We were kept really busy this first week, making appointments with the doctors and nurses for our various complimentary scans and therapies. I think I went to 10 this week! Out of those 10, I will mention only a few that stood out to me or seemed to have a positive effect on me.
I did this one on Thursday and let me tell you by 8:00 that night I already felt the benefits, I felt so relaxed, I fell into a peaceful sleep at 8:30! At eight freakin thirty, you guys! If you know me, you know that I am a total night owl and this NEVER happens. I’ve been sleeping like a baby ever since and I can’t help but think this therapy had something to do with it.
I didn’t know anything about it before I came here, but apparently it is the only healing device approved and recognized by the FDA as an anesthesia instrument in pain management and healing. It works with with muscle contraction to increase circulation and lymphatic drainage in the body and is used extensively in Sports Medicine to recover from injury, exhaustion, etc. and increases the uptake of oxygen and nutrition to the cells.
Consequently it was also one of the only ones I could actually *feel* while doing it and it felt like tiny little electrical pulses throughout my body. Not super pleasant, but far from unbearable and I would definitely do it again.
Far Infared Sauna
This one is a bit more well known and a bit of a no-brainer for me. I’ve read about and heard the benefits of FIR Sauna for forever, but just haven’t had access to one or made the dive to do it on a regular basis. This therapy works with heat to destroy pathogens in the body and helps you detoxify through your sweat glands. It has numerous benefits but the obvious one for me is a more relaxed and clear state of mind. Here they recommend one 20-30 min session daily and I have to say I look forward to them at the end of every day. I absolutely love the sauna! The heat alone makes me feel so good, and makes this one of my personal favorites.
Ok, I realize this is not your typical healing therapy and honestly it’s not my favorite, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it, as it is the cornerstone of everything they teach here at Hippocrates. As they say here you aren’t what you eat, “you are what you ABSORB.” And since wheatgrass is one of the most highly-absorbable, nutrient dense foods on the planet, it just makes sense to include it as the basis of their healing program. Wheatgrass has the highest concentration of chlorophyll than any other plant on earth and has the capacity to carry oxygen and sunlight directly into the body like none other. The juice even more so. It is highly alkalizing and life giving and although I don’t care for the taste of it, it does give me energy and I do whatever it takes to drink mine down.
They recommend drinking 2 oz twice a day and taking another 4 oz via enema/rectal implant daily. That may sound intense but I can’t tell you how many people have been healed with this therapy alone. It is amazing!
Once again, not your typical expected therapy but therapy it is nonetheless. This is by far one of my favorite aspects of being here. Because what can be more healing for the soul than walking through paths of flowers and butterflies? And hearing water trickling over rocks and cascading over waterfalls?? It’s a huge part of what happens here whether people realize it or not and I am healed by it a little more every day.
Last but not least, I’d like to talk about the food here. While it is not as elaborate as I had expected, it serves its purpose and I feel so much better since eating it. I’ve been fully raw now for 7 days and I have to say I feel incredible! The raw food bar is set out every day for lunch and dinner and it consists mostly of sprouts and greens along with a few signature raw dishes. I haven’t found it to be as creative as I was hoping but I’m learning to mix and create to satisfy my own taste buds, so it’s working.
Also, I must mention the people! The people here at Hippocrates are what truly make the experience and I’m blessed to have met some of the kindest most beautiful souls already.
This is my roommate Lauren. She was starting her 3rd week when I came, so we only got to spend one week together before she graduated and went home yesterday. We bonded deeply during that time and I miss seeing her here. Lauren lost both her parents to cancer and like me, decided that there had to be a better way and set out to find answers. When she found out she had the breast cancer gene, she chose to come here instead of doing the “preventative mastectomy” and give her body everything it needed FIRST to heal and conquer this disease. She was absolutely glowing and a picture of health by the time she left.
(Kudos to you Lauren! You inspire!)
There are many like Lauren who have such deep and inspiring stories. Stories of pain and heartache and also of triumph. I run into someone new every day that inspires me.
People like Danny, reformed butcher boy from Orange County, California who came here two weeks ago, severely overweight, diabetic, zero color, ZERO mood or zest for life and in danger of losing his life (AND his limbs!). The doctors were ready to amputate his leg when his buddy, out of pure love and desperation tricked him into coming here, dropped him off, all expenses paid and said “here’s your new life, get better.”
His story will bring anyone to tears, and he has seen nothing but miracles since he got here. In two weeks his sugar levels have completely normalized, he’s lost over 20 lbs, his eyesight has returned, and his energy is back in full force! He is literally bouncing off the walls around here, he has so much energy!! It is truly inspiring to watch and a powerful testimony of what can happen when we DECIDE to change.
(Danny, you will do great things with your “new life” I have no doubt and I am thrilled to watch your transformation and be on this journey with you!)
It’s obvious after one week that the stories and the people who come here are what make this place alive and I feel so honored and happy to have met the ones I did and I look forward to meeting more during my stay here.
All in all, it’s been a wonderful first week…and I’m looking forward to the next.
Til next time!
